Link (legume interactive network a strong multidisciplinary scientific network for the benefit of grain legume integrated chain to meet the protein demand of the European end-use industry

Objective

The general mission of the proposed thematic network is to link the scientists and the economic actors (growers, advisory services, industrialists, etc.) in relation with grain legume integrated chain, for overcoming the remaining constraints to meet the demand in European protein-rich materials.

LINK provides us the tools for a stronger coordination by: - identifying the priorities and gaps of production and utilisation of protein-rich seeds; - optimising the research potential on grain legumes and developing a multidisciplinary and integrated approach; - improving the transfer from laboratories to economic actors (companies, growers. etc.).

This thematic network will allow us to gain a strong European scientific identity in that area and will contribute to the efficiency of agricultural primary production and end-use industry, in accordance with the economic and agricultural CAP context. To meet these objectives, the thematic network:
- identifies limiting factors and needs of the economic actors and to stimulate information exchanges between them for joint approaches (task 1 );
- links on-going European programmes, stimulate exchanges of information between scientific experts from different disciplines, and identifying scientific gaps to fullfil in future joint scientific actions (task 2)
- stimulates an increased cohesion and communication in Task 3 to assist the interface between and within researchers and end-users, with joint brainstormings and thematic workshops (tasks) - develops joint means of communication and support means for an increased cohesion (Task 4).

An efficient Management structure is required to run the network and it is helped by the involvement of the Executive Secretariat of the AEP (European Association of Grain Legume Research), which has demonstrated its ability to coordinate and administrate scientifc actions and relations with private companies. The partnership of private companies and high qualified scientists insures adequation to industry needs and high-value research.

The benefits of this network are very important since LINK:
- allows to set up a common approach for a strong and competitive European strength;
- contributes to meet the demand from European industry for home-produced vegetable raw materials rich in protein (reducing the MRP deficit of Europe)
- answers to the objective of a sustainable and environment-friendly agriculture;
- identifies the requirements and needs from end-use industry and from relevant production; - enhances coordination and homogenisation between countries in Europe in the integrated chain of grain legume products;
- provides us with a platform of interactions among national and trans-national programmes.

Therefore, the proposal network, targeted to protein products, participates to set up conditions for a increased research effort and an efficient transfer of results to commercial applications. It contributes to the European adaptation of agriculture production to the industrial and market needs.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
