Objective
THE PRESENT JOINT STUDY BY COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE, CEN SACLAY (CEA) AND UNIVERSITAET HANNOVER (UH) IS INTENDED TO ANALYSE THE RESULTS GENERATED IN A NUMBER OF RESEARCH CONTRACTS CONCERNED WITH CUTTING TESTS IN THE AIR AND UNDER WATER, UNDER CONSIDERATION OF THE PREVAILING WORKING CONDITIONS. THE SAME TARGET IS FIXED FOR THE ASSOCIATED FILTRATION SYSTEMS. THE ANALYSIS SHOULD RESULT IN A LARGE DATA BASE, MAKING COMMON USE OF ALL DATA BY GIVING COMPARABLE INFORMATION FOR PRACTICAL DISMANTLING OPERATIONS. THE STUDY SHOULD BE ENLARGED TO A BROADER SCOPE INCLUDING ALSO RECENTLY OBTAINED RESULTS OUTSIDE THE PRESENT RESEARCH PROGRAMME, CONSIDERING ALSO SUPPLEMENTARY CUTTING TOOLS AND FILTRATION SYSTEMS NOT COVERED BY THE PRESENT PROGRAMME.
THE ANALYSIS WILL BE DONE IN CLOSE COOPERATION BETWEEN BOTH CONTRACTORS BY WORK-SHARING.
Cutting tests in air and in water have been analysed with consideration of the prevailing working conditions. This has provided a database giving broadly assessed information of use in the dismantling of radioactive components.
1. PREPARATION OF A COMPLETE LIST OF IMPORTANT WORKING PARAMETERS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A USEFUL COMPARISON OF EXPERIMENTAL DATA OBTAINED WITH CUTTING TESTS ON METALLIC COMPONENTS, AS CONCERNS CUTTING PERFORMANCE, CUTTING EFFLUENT GENERATION AND PERFORMANCE OF ASSOCIATED FILTRATION SYSTEMS (CEA + UH).
2. ANALYSIS OF GENERATED CUTTING EFFLUENTS IN AIR AND UNDER WATER OBTAINED WITH THE CUTTING TOOLS CONSIDERED IN CHAPTER B.3. (CEA + UH).
3. ANALYSIS AND COMPARISON OF DATA ON CUTTING PERFORMANCE. THIS ANALYSIS SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE RESULTS OBTAINED OUTSIDE THE PRESENT PROGRAMME (UH).
4. ANALYSIS AND COMPARISON OF DATA ON VARIOUS PREFILTERS FOR PROTECTION OF HEPA FILTERS (CEA).
5. ANALYSIS AND COMPARISON OF DATA ON WATER-FILTER SYSTEMS (UH).
6. PREPARATION OF A CONCLUSIVE ASSESSMENT ON THE TREATED RESULTS WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR APPLICATIONS TO LARGE-SCALE DECOMMISSIONING (CEA + UH).

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
