High temperature reactor, nuclear, physics, waste and fuel cycle studies

Objective

The nuclear physics codes for Low-Enriched (LEU) HTR fuel can be verified and adjusted with measurements at the test HTR reactors in Japan (HTTR) and in China (HTR-10).
Additional information will be available from the critical facility PROTEUS in Switzerland. The core analyses with different codes will allow determining temperature coefficients and control rod worth for block and pebble bed type HTR with LEU fuel for safety evaluation and design. Plutonium extracted fro m spent LWR MOX is considered as an attractive HTR- fuel cycle to reduce the growing stockpiles of civil Plutonium.

HTR core analysis will be made for this symbiosis of LWR and HTR. Special treatments for purification of contaminated carbonaceous material from the core structures are intended to improve the disposal or re-use. Data for long-term geochemical modelling of directly disposed spent HTR fuel will be generated by leaching tests on the matrix, coating and kernels of fuel elements.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
