Testing and enhanced modelling of passive evolutionary systems technology (for containment cooling) ('tempest')

Objective

The goal of this proposal is to address most significant challenge facing Nuclear Power, improved economics and need for operational flexibility. New plants address challenge by reducing capital cost and operating plants improve their economics in several ways including increase in the power output. This proposal addresses the issue of pressure suppression design and decay heat removal systems and ways to reduce conservatism in designs. This will allow either a reduction in the containment cost or an easier increase in operating plant power levels. An integrated and focused testing and analytical programme addressing the remaining uncertainties in the post accident response addresses these issues. The proposal is endorsed by a group of European utilities and the team primarily consists of European specialists in their respective fields. Technology and resources of additional international partners are used to leverage the European resources.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
