Objective
We propose to carry out the first scattering experiments with a beam of monochromatic neutral particles and an ultra-cold neutral target gas. As collision system we select spin-polarized triplet He-metastables, which interact via the molecular quintet-sigma potential. By performing the experiments over an energy range from 10 to 100 micro-eV we will be able for the first time to measure with spectroscopic precision the long-range van der Waals interaction in the region of 100 atomic units. These results will further yield evidence for the possibility of observing the so far unobserved quantum-phenomenon of Bose-Einstein condensation in this system.
