Atomic interference in the micromaser

Objective

Atomic Interference in the Micromaser
The aim of the projected research is to theoretically characterize the several mechanism leading to the appearance of atomic interference in the micromaser. A manifestation of atomic interference generated within the micromaser cavity has been recently observed experimentally in Garching, revealing itself as spikes in the maser line.
We plan to develop a theoretical model, to characterize this interference phenomena. Special attention has to be paid to the role of the fine structure of the atomic levels in order to optimize the election of the maser transi- tion. In order to test the analogy of the observed interference pattern with the usual Ramsey fringes, the competition of both intra- and extra-cavity interference mechanism will be investigated. This competition will show up when the micromaser cavity is sandwich between two separated-oscillatory Ramsey fields.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
