Comptability of calcarenites with other stony materials in sicilian monuments - the role of physical-chemical properties in deterioration

Objective

The research project takes into consideration the Sicilian monuments built with calcarenites having different petrographic properties and laid with mortars of different nature. The aim of the project is: - to highlight, starting from the observation and the analysis of monument's deteriorations, the principal petrographic, physical and chemical parameters. These are linked to the nature of the stone, the mortars and the atmospheric conditions, and have been modified by the interfacing of different materials; - to perform measurements and experiments that permit the evaluation of: * the hydraulic balance of the solutions that circulate by evaporation and capillarity; * the modifications that are produced when calcarenites and mortars, of different nature come into contact; - to model the conditions of transfer and to determine the
intervals in which the physical-chemical parameters may vary in order to assure the maximum compatibility between the different materials; - to determine the conditions according to which these results can be applied to guarantee a better restoration of the Sicilian monuments.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
