The so-called L-Functions of number fields and of elliptic curves play a central role in number theory; several important conjectures deal with them, for example the main conjecture of Iwasawa theory, and the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer. Recently, a unifying approach to the different kinds of p-adic L-functions has been found, called motivic L-functions.
As I used some properties of p-adic L-functions in my doctoral thesis, it is of great interest to me to learn the modern, general theory. There are many open questions in this area, and I hope that I can make some contribution in the Iwasawa theory of elliptic curves.
