Training in symplectic geometry and pseudo-holomorphic curves

Objective

Since the Autumn 1994, I am working at a Ph. D. under the supervision of Pierre PANSU, professor at the University of Paris-Sud. My work consists on understanding better the theorem of compactness of pseudo- holomorphic curves, showed by Cremor in his 1985 paper. Another aspect is to understand the associated modular space and its compactification. Moreover, a generalization of the compactness result to solution of Cremor's elliptic equations in two variables, which should appear as the most general elliptic equations of surface in 4-manifold, is expected. Recently, C.Taubes related pseudoholomorphic curves in 4-dimension to solution of Seiberg-Willen's equation. His approach to pseudoholomorphic curves as zero sets of functions has been fruitful and might lead to result for my research.
Professor Salomon, who works around Seiberg-Willem invariants, sympletic geometry and J-holomorphic curves, had the kindness to accept to supervise my work. I would be delighted to continue my thesis research in Warwick.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
