Neutron scattering studies of magnetic materials

Objective

The objective of the proposed visit is to enhance the capabilities of the of the research team at the Institute of Materials Science of NCSR "Demokritos" to exploit the technique of neutron scattering to investigate, at an atomic level of detail, the properties of condensed matter. The focus of the visit will be on the interpretation of experimental data and the performance of feasibility studies in order to assess the potential impact on the Institute' s program of work of experiments which it is planned to be performed at the NCSR reactor facility. The contents of the work program aimed at achieving the foregoing objectives, will include a series of lectures on topics in the interpretation of neutron scattering experirnents. In the lectures, the emphasis will be on what information is obtainable from neutron scattering experiments, and how the information relates to that obtained from other techniques e.g. x-ray scattering, muon spin-relaxation, etc. In addition the visitor, together with members of the theory group in the Institute will undertake studies that will illustrate the quality of the data that could be obtained in experimental investigations of materials of interest in the Institute's program of work.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
