Objective
The proposal concerns the secondment of Dr J.A. Blackman to NCSR 'Demokritos'. The objective is to advise the Demokritos theory group on the development of a facility for electronic structure calculations on magnetic materials and to develop a collaborative research programme. Lectures will be given on computational techniques for the study of electronic properties of bulk and nanosized magnetic materials and advice will be given about computer code acquisition. Two collaborative projects will also be started. The first concerns the magnetic structure of the perovskite related materials RBaFeCuO5+delta (R = Y or Pr) where it is believed that magnetic correlations depend very sensitively on delta. The second involves the magnetic properties of nanoparticles, where the presence of the surface considerably influences the magnetic properties. In both of these the electronic structure calculations are needed to probe the magnetic moments of the materials. The areas relate to the 'Demokritos' experimental programme.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
