Examination of incineration behavior of solid wastes and study of gas emissions and solid residues characteristics

Objective

Research objectives and content Incineration is a promising solid waste disposal technique especially in countries with limited space. This project aims to the investigation of various solid wastes incineration behaviour and the determination of gaseous products profile, for the understanding of the reaction mechanisms. The characteristics of the solid residues produced will be examined for their utilization in common applications and their environmental effects. Thermal treatment of the samples will be studied under various experimental conditions for the determination of optimum operating conditions and the minimization of gases in accordance with the EU policy.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
The applicant has worked on the thermal treatment of coals and the wastewater treatment. The host institute has a long experience on solid waste management. The project aims to enhance the applicant to acquire a deeper knowledge in a scientific area related to his research activity and to stimulate the technology transfer and application of solid waste treatment to Greece.
Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)
Solid wastes in Greece are produced in large quantities and are disposed at non-controlled areas, while the expertise on alternative solid waste treatment methods is restricted. The project aims to promote the basic knowledge on solid waste technologies and their transfer and application to Greece.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
