Objective
EASSS-2 seeks to extend a programme of work started under the Human Capital and Mobility of Researchers Large Scale Facilities programme, and to make full use of the investment made by the European Union in seafloor surveying systems.
Two unique systems devised by the Institute of Oceanographic Sciences Deacon Laboratory (IOSDL) for wide-area geological surveying (GLORIA) and for deep-towed high resolution mapping (TOBI) are offered. Systems like these will become increasingly important in ocean resource assessment over the next 25 years both in European waters and in world-wide markets. Training in GLORIA and TOBI operations will spread knowledge and expertise of seafloor surveying to European Union members that do not have access to complex, leading edge, ocean mapping equipment. The training will produce people capable of running industrial applications of seafloor mapping, and people for managing the sustainable development of Exclusive Economic Zones.
The project will be managed by a steering committee which includes lOSDL staff and leading European geological researchers. The project leads to the best possible training through joint research projects including the close cooperation that is generated by working at sea.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
