Objective
Principal characteristics of the facility and of the support offered to users:
The Zoological Museum Amsterdam is a large biodiversity repository, operating a facility with more than 10 million selected series of zoological specimens, including supporting molecular laboratories and the unique IT unit Expert Centre for Taxonomic Identification. With a research programme focussing on the spectrum from speciation studies up to macroevolution, the facility offers extensive opportunities to visiting researchers to use the facility in a stimulating scientific environment. Projects of the user groups are discussed in advance, with emphasis on the handling, analysing, documentation, and the electronic publishing of large and complex data sets. Short courses will assist the researcher in the efficient use of the facilities offered.
Quantity of access being offered and number of users who may benefit: A total of 700 (effective) man-days to be exposed to the facility will be offered to in total 70 visiting researchers. Including training courses, research talks, etc.,the average stay at the facility will be three weeks. A system with personal support will promote maximal results.
