RADAR is an integrated system (software and hardware tools) for short term (two hours) rainfall prediction in a small area. This information is used in our applications to have a better (on line) control of sewage systems.
- A low cost meteorological RADAR: this new sensor will be used to get the image of the clouds, used as input for rainfall prediction systems. The innovation is the way this technology can reduce costs.
- Software for RAINFALL prediction: this software uses the radar images to predict the future images, on the basis of direction estimates. A pre processing module is used to correct the raw images before this prediction. A calibration module uses the rain gauges in the area to transform the information in these images to rainfall information.
- Decision tools for sewage control: on the basis of rainfall prediction, decisions are taken for on-line control of the equipment on the network and the plants. Runoff prediction and pollution estimate modules are provided to help decision making. A GIS system is used to provide an HCI to guide the user during the management of a rainfall event.
