Smart communicating applications using radio frequency

Exploitable results

The first result of the SCARF project consists of producing an integrated circuit, a radio transceiver at 433MHz that adds optimized sensitivity and current consumption at an especially low cost, thanks to its high level of integration and its architecture. This component processes multi-channel transmission allowing transmissions that are faster and safer than mono-channel ones, considering crystal oscillator temperature and time drifts as well as ambient electromagnetic noise. It further enlarges markets such as remote meter reading, where it will be implemented in radio modules. These modules are fixed on each meter and allow remote (electricity, water, and gas) meter reading. They can communicate particularly with fixed concentrators linked via PSTN modem to a PC. This system provides complete automatic meter reading. It is used in the last part of the project where the radio module communicates with power line carrier modems to constitute Home Systems. Three demonstrators are planned to prove the feasibility of the system. Using modem and radio transmissions from the operator to the final user, then power line carrier medium within the home is a possible way of solving PLC technical problems and promoting the existing Home Systems devices.
