The METAPOWER System measures and displays RPM (Revolutions Per Minute), torque and power on rotating shafts. It is a digital, laser-based system intended to replace straingauge based torque meters. METAPOWER has very good long-term stability and is ideal for all types of rotating machinery including ship propeller shafts, wind turbines etc. Patents have been applied for or granted in 24 countries. METAPOWER is a digital system with good long-term stability that measures RPM, torque and power transferred from the main engine on a ship to the propeller(s). METAPOWER can replace straingauged systems and is ideal for use on high RPM shafts, since it does not need strain gauges or any delicate electronics glued or mounted to the rotating shafts. It uses a laser beam for the detection of the shaft torque, the shaft RPM and consequently the transferred power. By transmitting measured data from ship to shore via satellite, the operation management of the shipping company is able to identify the most economic operating modes for the engine and propulsion system of the ship. The capacity of the system to measure two shafts simultaneously makes it a cost-effective solution for all kinds of ships with two or more propellers. A wide range of rotating machinery including wind turbines, mainly offshore installed turbines with controllable pitch, represent also another potential market for the METAPOWER system.
