On-line process & quality optimisation for the manufacturing of cast metallic parts (QUME)

Objective

The project addresses two different problems in order to demonstrate a new technology (intensity calibrated X-radioscopy method and vibration analysis involving multiple sensors and resonance frequency) and new methodology for defect detection, classification and recognition:
i) intelligent manufacturing control during semi-solid casting and;
ii) inspection technology and data processing methodology to improve detection, efficiency and reliability of detection in general inspection tasks and particularly condition monitoring. The focus is on the complex process control case on semi-solid forming, aiming to reduce high scrap rates and quality problems by factor of 2.
