Metal by-product recovery in induction furnaces - commercial, environmental and technical solutions

Objective

The problem to be solved is the disposal of often hazardous metal-bearing dusts and sludges generated during the iron and steel foundry process. At the moment they are disposed of in landfills. The overall objective of the project is develop methods for re-melting the dusts and sludges on-site in common coreless induction furnaces. The dusts and sludges will be pressed to briquettes or pellets and charged to the furnace. The following questions will get an answer: how to make the pellets/briquettes, what should be their composition, how they should be charged into the furnace, how to maximise the yield, how much briquettes/pellets can be used in the charge without effects on the casting quality, how to minimise an excessive wear of the refractory lining.
