Objective
The manufacture of ultra-precision steel parts requires extensive, non deterministic finishing operations, e.g. polishing. Aim of the project NanoSteel is to provide a flexible and deterministic process chain. Objective is to ensure parts manufacturing with optical surface quality and form accuracy or with micro- structured surfaces without any finishing operations. Development work will focus on the innovative ultrasonic assisted diamond turning. Main innovation and result of the project, carried out by 8 partners from 5 EC countries, is a new technology which will contribute to a substantial enhancement in the quality and efficiency of steel parts. The approach will include the development of a tool system suitable for serial manufacture, the creation of a technology database and the process chain integration.
