Objective
European regulation and market demands induce a global shift to lead-free soldering in electronics industry. To improve competitiveness, EFSOT promotes reliability, efficiency and sustainability of lead-free soldering. Along the life cycle, companies and institutes research open scientific and technological material and process issues for new advanced lead-free applications. Parallely, effects of material and process choices and developments on environment, toxicity, recyclability and resources are evaluated. Integrated lead-free solutions enable industry to choose materials and processes that best fit technical requirements, have lowest life cycle impacts and save resources. Co-operation of EU, Japan and Korea promotes lead-free soldering to implement European regulation, facilitate access to inter-regional knowledge, generate synergies, and strengthen global compatibility of lead-free soldering solutions.
