Ceramics and its optimised manufacturing with model predictive control

Objective

Currently applied process control in the ceramics industry(bricks, tiles etc.) is restricted to traditional control techniques. Whilst dynamic process models and model based control software could provide massive advantages, no such models and software exist. Objective of the COMPtrol project is:. Develop generic dynamic multi-variables models (e.g.TNO)and control software(IPCOS and ISMC) for the SME dominated ceramics industry. Prove and demonstrate the benefits of applying model based control at SME manufacturers (validators in both bricks and tiles) to stimulate further uptake within the ceramics industry and beyond (glass industry, agro-food). Fine ceramic manufacturers will realise waste reduction from 15% to 5% of production (an estimate of up to 900 Meuro in Europe) .Energy (2500 kJ(kg) covers approximately 25-30% of the total production costs of ceramics. Energy savings o faround 3-5% will be an important benefit for both fine ceramics and brick and roof tiles manufacturers.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
