Decision making tool based on an interface between cad and finite element solver for production lifecycle design

Objective

CAD systems do not have facilities to do iterative calculations on the strength of the design, the distortion of the design or other physical changes and effects which occur during product-service lifecycle. Separate computer programmes such as Finite Element solver carry out the calculations necessary for the checking of the product during lifecycle. They can only be handle one shape of product at a time. To make changes, the engineer must make the decision and manually change the problem without recommendation. This means that not much iteration, usually one time in SME, are made and a less than optimal design is made. The aim of this project is to take the calculation stage from CAD and develop an interface with FE to automate calculations necessary for the checking of the product in dynamic use (Lifecycle). The system will undertake many repeat calculations automatically changing the design against given rules until an optimum is obtained.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
