Objective
The aim is to develop a leather finishing system using an electrostatic process which does not require organic solvents, based principally on water-based finishing and, subsequently, on powder resins, as soon as the technological advances on resins allow new formulations for melting at a low temperature. At present, a large quantity of chemical products are used for the finishing of leather which present some drawbacks due to the use of solvents: Emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC), health and environmental risks related to VOC and expensive environmental measures in order to reduce VOC. It is intended to prepare a CRAFT proposal with the objectives: To reduce by 15% the finishing process time. 100% elimination of the use of solvents and the problems associated with the VOC. To prepare new formulations for the leather finishing in the form of water-based and powder finishing (solvents free). To develop a system to apply the finishing by means of an electrostatic process and to obtain leathers useful in the manufacture of footwear, which fulfil the requirements of quality.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
