Simulation with hardware-in-the-loop for advanced assembly system design, prototyping and testing

Objective

Manufacturers of special purpose assembly systems are faced in every project with the task to design new process equipment in a cost efficient way. Design and building of this equipment is characterised by little repeatability of overall solutions. Often new technical solutions need to be developed under tight time limitations in one step from CAD design to full operability. This leads to high failure rates and high cost for subsequent improvement. As an advanced solution to this problem, the objective of SHILAS is to develop, validate and integrate virtual prototyping and testing of special purpose assembly systems, based on dynamic real-time, hardware-in-the-loop simulation with integrated real components such as controllers or actuators. This will allow for the first time to introduce tests and optimisation of critical components in their functional environment during the design of special purpose machinery.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
