Recycling polyvinyl chloride (pvc) to produce light-weight, decorative and economic single-layer roofs

Objective

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) has the lowest recycling rate of all commodity plastics and where it has been successfully recycled it is into low quality goods as the recycled PVC does not have the necessary physical properties. The need for a low cost alternative to incinerating or land filling PVC - i.e. economically viable recycling producing a high quality output - is compelling. A promising application for PVC recyclate is roof coverings. This project is proposed to investigate the possibilities of PVC recyclate for this application, aiming to use as much secondary (waste) material as possible. The RTD work anticipated includes
(i) further optimisation of the PVC recyclate material for this application;
(ii) development of prototype machinery' to produce coverings of consistent quality;
(iii) development of the novel rolling technology and the pilot production line for the purpose.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
