Objective
The proposed project is to design and develop a cost effective high speed punching press, which is modular in its application and can be easily configured. The novel solution will incorporate linear motors for improved axis acceleration and increased accuracy over contemporary punching machines. A multi-function forming and cutting head is also proposed that can offer either mechanical punching or plasma cutting technology. The machine will also incorporate user-friendly touch screen control incorporating remote access facilities for improved support and maintenance. A number of software modules will be developed for varying applications together with facilities for interfacing and controlling the unit with other systems. The modular product design approach along with the ability to configure the machine to meet specific manufacturing requirements, will offer a cost effective solution to companies wishing to maintain competitiveness in the global market place. it is believed that the machine can be positioned at a price equating to the "market entry" products in existence today, making it suitable as either the main production unit in smaller companies or a flexible second operation unit on larger production lines.
