Objective
Flame-retardance finish processing makes the cotton fabrics harder, with a high bending stiffness, while the fabric handle deteriorates. In frame of the proposed project the participating SMEs, which activate in cotton fabric processing, will investigate the development of new sequences of mechanical and chemical treatments, to improve the affectivity of flame retardance, the stability against hostile washing conditions, and the handle of cotton flame retardant fabrics. The envisaged project is aiming to: Quantify the stiffness of the flame retardant cotton fabrics, Investigate the effect of the flame retardant finishing on the mechanical properties of the fabrics, Investigate the effect of different mechanical and chemical softening treatments on the handle of the treated fabrics, Investigate the flame retardance resistance to various detergents and washing conditions, and Optimise the finishing treatments to achieve an acceptable handle for cotton apparel fabrics.
