Objective
DESIRE will assess distance based inter-urban road pricing in Europe, focusing on heavy vehicles and considering future extensions towards other type of vehicles. It will provide guidelines not only for the design of those schemes but also ways to overcome its implementation difficulties. The main output of DESIRE is the production of guidelines and recommendations that will help policy makers in defining and setting up policies for a more efficient use of existing road networks, with the consequent improvements of efficiency and effectiveness in the dynamics of economic and social relations. DESIRE will provide a systematic approach to pricing schemes on heavy vehicles to allow the identification of every possible scheme over any preconceptions that may exist on the subject. DESIRE is organised along 6 phases with a continuous feedback form the "real world".
