Objective
Ro-Ro passenger ship safety has to be improved, as recent ship disasters with significant loss of lives imply. The ROROPROB project aims at improving safety by developing and implementing a new formalised design methodology for optimal Ro-Ro passenger ship subdivision. The procedure is based on the probalistic concept-based damage stability regulations. Proper optimisation tools will be used to reduce the required computational and design effort. The project will be initiated with an updating of a technical Ro-Ro passenger ship database, followed by an in-depth study of robustness of the probalistic rules-based damage stability approach. The optimisation problem for ship's subdivision will be set up and the design solution procedure will be implemented by application of a new software design system, which will be extensively validated. Parameter studies and practical ship design demonstrations will be carried out.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
