Objective ALIVe project proposes to demonstrate the feasibility of navigating and docking a free underwater vehicle, autonomous in energy and supervised by an acoustic modem, and to dock it on an underwater fixed structure to carry out inspection and maintenance tasks. Unlike conventional Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, this vehicle will feature station keeping, auto docking and manipulation capability. Its applications are: inspection and maintenance of underwater facilities (oil & gas, scientific), assistance in rescue operations, archaeological missions, hazardous materials collection (radio-active wastes, chemical weapons) and any type of intervention where a light vehicle, cost effective and easy to mobilise, can replace an ROV.
