Objective
Lightweight materials are a key means to reduce fuel consumption & CO2 emissions. One of the most promising materials are lightweight sandwich sheets which have not been extensively used in vehicle industry, because sufficient methods for mass production have not been developed. Expected results of the project research are advanced lightweight body concepts utilising the potential of sandwich sheets and the related manufacturing and joining technologies applicable for mass production. With an expected weight reduction of 50% in replaced parts major vehicle components can be downsized and this leads to further weight reduction. It is expected to introduce sandwich sheets into production vehicles 1-3 years after the project. The findings will also extend the application of lightweight sandwich sheets in other areas.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
