Objective
The oil and gas industry is now developing prospects in water depths beyond 1,000 metres, exploring beyond 2,000 and there is considerable interest in even deeper waters, out to 3,500 metres. The OCTOPLUS surface facility, proposed under this project, may be compared with the now well accepted barge/ box / mono-hull FPSO concept. When developed, the concept, that could be built using conventional shipyard practices, should show step improvements in hydrodynamic behaviour, oil storage system, safety , structural efficiency and phased development capabilities All the above characteristics and advantages, when fully researched, should show OCTOPLUS to be a leading cost effective deep-water surface concept.
