Objective
Transport system safety is clearly one of the most important social problems, involving a lot of items as road, tyre and vehicle design. The proposed RTD Project faces the problem of Land Transport Safety aiming to improve Vehicle Active Safety by developing an integrated model for the simulation of the full system road-tyre-vehicle-driver in the most dangerous situations (presence of water, ice, snow, etc.), with special focus on the representation of HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) and the most advanced Vehicle Electronic Control Systems. These two items can be clearly seen as currently critical for the reduction of road deaths, since about 25-30 % of all road fatalities in Europe involve trucks and Electronic Systems are now becoming a global commodity. Such an integrated simulation environment will make possible to detect and rank the most dangerous situations and to define guidelines for the faster development of new safer products.
