Objective
Diesel engines equipped with common rail are getting more and more important in todays passenger cars. These engines are marking now the top of modern engine development. The future of Diesel engines is depending very strongly on the capability to reach the future emission levels. One of the best chances to reach such targets is to modify the combustion system. Scientist all in the world is now investigating the basics of the homogenous combustion. Well-known problems are the limited range in the engine map for the use of the homogenous combustion. The target of this project is to develop a combustion system for the use in a passenger car. In a wide range of the engine map the homogenous combustion should be the first choice, but for the driveability of a car it is also necessary to realize a combustion system to achieve rated power. These hard facts leads to the development of a new fuel metering strategy combined with a new combustion system.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
