Eco-friendly anti-fouling paints

Objective

The formation of fouling on vessels of all types is a longstanding problem that hinders the performance of boats and increase maintenance costs. The development of anti-fouling paints is problematic because the paint additives that prevent the formation of fouling have undesirable effects on the sea, fish and crustaceans. This problem is particularly complex for yachts and small vessels that spend along time close to the shore and must satisfy extremely restrictive legislation on the use of anti-fouling paints. This project will perform the basic research and develop the technology to prevent the formation of fouling in an eco-friendly way. In particular it will suppress the initial stages of the bacteria formation that eventually lead to the formation of fouling. The technology developed within the project will have an enormous impact on the yachting sector in the medium term and on the whole naval sector in the medium- long term.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
