Objective
The project proposes to provide a means of eliminating the urban pollutants that are inadequately dealt with by existing technological solutions. It will achieve this by researching the potential for a novel zirconia device that has produced promising results in laboratory scale experiments by the research provider. The device will be fitted in the exhaust manifold of urban delivery and passenger vehicles and is expected to produce 10-15% improvement in fuel consumption and 40-80% reductions in emissions. When developed by the industrial partners the device will be retrofitted to existing fleets providing a means of improving air quality in areas of high sensitivity without the need to replace the fleet. Vehicle manufacturers are likely to be interested as a means of avoiding the use of more exotic materials - often imported into the community
