Europiv 2 : a joint program to improve piv performance for industry and research

Objective

Particle Image Velocimetry is a unique optical method to capture velocity fields in flows. It has been demonstrated in the EUROPIV 1 project. It is especially suited to hold the design of modern aircraft by consequently improving the performance of industrial wind tunnels. PIV provides much more information in much less time, giving a much deeper insight in the flow physics and saving large amounts of wind tunnel costs. Europe is at a leading position for the development of PIV toward industrial applications. The aim of the proposal is to push the development of PIV and to make it a real design tool for modern aeronautics. A joint approach of development, research and demonstration is proposed. Improvement of PIV for turbulence, near wall flows and vortices is looked at. Three demonstrations of Stereoscopic PIV in European industrial wind tunnels are planned. Research on future developments of PIV is performed.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
