Objective
One of the most important challenges for aero engine manufacturers is to outfit their next engine generation with fail safe Low Emission Combustors. Among the techniques developed in the past, Lean Premixed Prevaporized combustion came out as the most promising one. Nevertheless, premixed flames suffer from self-sustained, large amplitude pressure oscillations. This drops the combustion efficiency and additionally, severe deterioration of the hardware can occur. In order to be able to use Low Emission Combustors in Aero engines, such extremely dangerous situations have to be avoided. Therefore, the European Aero engine manufacturers, Universities and Research Centers decided to join their efforts in this programme. Design rules will be established and suitable damping methods developed for existing combustors. In parallel, global and detailed predictive tools will be elaborated and applied to real geometries.
