Objective
The overall objective of CYPRESS is to make informed predictions of the probable changes in aero gas turbine design in the near term and the longer term (17-20 years) and to predict the pollutant emissions from these engines. The design changes will be driven not only by commercial pressures to produce more fuel-efficient engines but also by the objectives of the Kyoto Protocol to reduce carbon dioxide (CO_2) emissions. The changes will also impact other emissions species such as NOx for which there is existing legislation in the LTO cycle. Cypress will study the effects of engine design and cycle on the relationships between CO_2 and NOx mentioned in the IPCC report. Because of the prospect that emissions should be regulated at all altitudes CYPRESS will make predictions of cycle efficiencies and emissions throughout the full LTO and flight cycle. Engine classes representative of the range of products of European manufacturers will be included in the study.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
