Objective
In order to achieve a significant reduction of the maintenance and operating costs of civil transport aircraft - while keeping the standards of safety and taking advantage of new trends in airworthiness regulation - improvements of existing repairs and extension of allowable damage sizes for primary metallic structures are required. These improvements can only be achieved through the development of new calculation methods and the use of improved repair processes. Repair principles involving new technologies and advanced metallic materials, which are likely to be incorporated in new aircraft, will also be investigated and improved. These enhanced repair designs and tools will be compared and validated using realistic tests on fuselage or wing components. The proposed project is clearly aligned with the aims and objectives of the FPV technology platform, which is focussed on the improvement of operational capability and safety of aircraft.
