Objective
The European aerospace sector has witnessed unprecedented growth over the last 15 years through the introduction of new, highly competitive aircraft products. To continue this, new products must be launched over the next decade that w ill push the boundaries of customer expectation and effectiveness. However, this becomes harder to achieve with a mature product such as a civil aircraft. Leaps to truly unconventional aircraft configurations are the long-term future, but it w ill take some time to build confidence in these radical designs. In the interim, it is essential that w e look to protect our position through the introduction of new features into the basic, conventional configuration. Currently most, if not all, Civil aircraft derive their low speed performance from the use of a flap and slat system, the basic concept of which has not really changed much since the mid 1900's. HELIX, the proposed project, looks to explore new approaches to generating sufficient low speed aerodynamic performance for conventional aircraft configuration, through the application of developments in the physical disciplines and tools, to a range of new , and some old, concepts.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
