Active control technologies for tilt-rotor (ACT-TILT)

Objectif

The proposal addresses the definition of a Flight Control System (FCS) and associated control laws for an advanced Tilt-rotor configuration. This is an important issue because of the specific requirements stemming from the Tilt-rotor configuration, and the importance of the system for aircraft safety, dispatch reliability, and affordability. The Tilt-rotor FCS has to provide adequate control means in modes of flight (helicopter, conversion, and cruise) and provide a smooth transition between them, which renders it particularly complex with a great number of actuators. This complexity naturally leads to the selection of a Fly-by-wire or Fly-by- Light technology. The application of this technology to rotorcrafts is still in its early days, with most of the on- going programmes being military. ACT-TILT will achieve the following industrial objectives:
- To reduce the risk related to the development of an advanced European Tilt-rotor.
- To improve the safety, dispatch reliability, and affordability standards of current US Tilt-rotors, making the aircraft attractive to the commercial market.
