Novel high performance injection moulding materials for cost effective secondary composite aviation parts

Objective

The proposers ensigage a CRAFT project addressing the Objectives of Key Action 4 'New Perspectives in Aeronautics' of the 'Growth' Programme. Competitive high performance long fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite injection molding materials will allow to reduce cost and weight of secondary aviation parts by 20 to 30 % compared to commonly used short fiber reinforced thermoplastic grades or metals without compromising mechanical performance. For aircraft industries, such cost efficient and low-weight secondary components will significantly contribute to vast reduction in CO2 emission and improvement of aircrafts' economics and safety. Technologies and methods that enable realization of this material and part concept in commercial small to large aircrafts will be developed in the project; development of aerospace performing injection molding grades, material characterization and process simulation; use of cost efficient injection molding techniques, prototype design and validation.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
