Objective
Smart Nameplates for Aircraft Parts (SNAPs) subject to in-flight stress (e.g. engines, rotors, landing gear, servos, etc.), will be developed in Step 2. SNAPs are to replace cumbersome paper documentation that currently accompanies them. Snaps will comprise: an RF Electronic Tag, securely attached (tamper-proof, to prevent fraudulent manipulation of component history record), a contact-less Logger/Reader, and Authenticated Multilingual Software. Latest State-of-the-Art technology will be used to develop the SNAPs, which will facilitate reading logging of data in diverse languages and prevent discarding of valuable components (because of misplaced or lost records), thus enhancing quality Assurance. Aircraft maintenance costs and rates of flight accidents will be reduced. Competitiveness of European part manufacturers/distributors and of authorized aircraft maintenance shops will increase. The work plan of Step2, the Consortium and the CRAFT proposal will be accomplished in this Step 1.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
