Objective
Fiber reinforced thermoplastic laminates (RTL) rapidly gain interest in the field of composites applications. Reasons for this are mainly decreasing material costs and better reproducibility comparing to thermo set composites. Especially in aerospace RTL are more frequently used. Making parts out of these materials became more or less common practice. Huge advantage over other (composite) materials is the weldability of RTL materials. Problems during product development however is that no design and engineering allowables are at hand for development of RTL welded assemblies. Objective for this program is to develop design and engineering allowables for the development of RTL welded assemblies, mainly for aerospace applications. Targets will be, reduction of labor with 30-40%. Cost reductions of 20-30% and realization of a better labor environment.
