Objective
Caking or solidification of solid products during transport or storage is an expensive burden on the European Chemical Industry and adds costs to the user. The project was identified as a critical industrial need by the SPIN Thematic Network and aims to develop a scientific understanding of caking, which will supersede current time consuming and wasteful empirical methods. Project deliverables will be: the knowledge of what mechanisms and fundamental particle properties are responsible for caking behaviour; which material properties can be exploited to generate anti-caking agents a software tool for the prediction of caking and the ability to select specific anti-caking agents for particular products. This should lead to reduced supply chain costs, a faster time to market, improved quality of products and therefore improve the competitiveness of the European Chemical industry in the global market.
