Objective
This project uses Industrial Free Electron Laser (IFEL) technology to produce focused microwave sources for industrial applications. This device allows industry, for the first time, to have access to high frequency microwaves in the range 10 to 50GHz with powers in excess of 1kW. The innovations are to develop novel solutions for material processing and material production having a higher efficiency, high reliability and lower costs than existing techniques. The main innovation areas have been previously identified under a Thematic Programme These include the generation of microwave plasma for material processing and plasma chemistry , focused microwaves for thermal chemistry and dielectric heating. The IFEL device consolidation will be undertaken to enable high frequency microwave sources to be taken up by industry to replace the lower frequency magnetrons.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
