Novel sol gel technology for long length superconducting coated tapes

Objective

The project aims to develop a Sol - Gel methodology for fabricating YBCO - based super conducting tapes which can be exploited at 77K in magnetic fields up to 4-5 T. The goal is to reach high performance (Jc = 1MA/cm² at 77 K) coated conductors at low cost and demonstrate their suitability in the fabrication of power devices. Novel sol gel and/or metal. organic precursors used to prepare oxide buffer and YBCO layers will be investigated. A spray coating system for continuous deposition will be installed and the oxide growing conditions for biaxial texture over metallic substrates will be determined. Two types of metallic substrates will be investigated : RABiT Cu/Ni, with electrodeposited protective layers when necessary, and polycrystalline stainless steel with a very thin seed IBAD layer. Two demonstrators - a cable & a magnet component will be fabricated using the newly obtained tapes.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
