Large-scale synthesis of a new super oxidant material by recycling ferrous sulfate 'laferox'

Objective

EU's annual production of ferrous sulfate is about 5 million tons generated by the steel and Ti industries (SOLLAC, KEMIRA, etc.). Small part is used as antimoss and the rest is waste disposed. Alkalis ferrate 'AF' was successfully synthesized within contract No BRPR-CT97-0392 using FeSO4 and two patents are filed. AF has been tested on the laboratory scale and can replace current reagents in water treatment. AF are also efficient for effluents' decontamination, cyanide oxidation, organic materials' destruction, soil remediation, etc. The consortium proposes large-scale production of AF in sufficient amounts to test the mentioned applications on industrial scale by SLE and SMEs. It will design and construct a demonstration unit of 20 kg/h for AF production. The consortium will collect necessary data for the industrial production of these new multipurpose reagent around 2007 to satisfy the demand of various industrial sectors.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
